History of the Journal
“Information Society” research and analytical journal has been published by the Institute of the Information Society in cooperation with the Russian Engineering Academy since 1999. The journal highlights development of the information society both in Russia and abroad. In 1989, it was first published as the “Herald of the Russian IT and Computing Association”, with its name changed for the current in 1997.
Today, the “Information Society” journal is a Russian edition that consistently and consecutively gives coverage to the state policy on the information society. Its materials aim to shape the Russian community of scientists, experts, politicians and practitioners that persistently study ICT opportunities for social and economic development.
Journal subscribers include federal and regional authorities and local self-governments, research and educational institutions, libraries of Russia and CIS countries, non-profit companies and organizations, individual ICT experts.

Yuri Evgenievich Hohlov
Yuri Hohlov graduated from the faculty of mechanics and mathematics of Kazan State University in 1976. At the outset of his career he worked at the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is one of the founders of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (headed its information and analytical division). Since 1998 he has been Chairman of the Board of the Institute of the Information Society (IIS).
Since 2009, Dr. Hohlov has been the head of the Department Information Society Development of MESI (now it is the IIS-Based Department of Digital Economy at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics). He was a member of the Supervisory Board of World Bank infoDev Program project “Development of a National Dialogue on Telecommunication Policy in Russia”, chairman of the Information Technology Section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Information Institutions (IFLA), member of the Supervisory Board of the European project “DELOS - Network of Electronic Libraries” and others.
In 2009-2012 Dr. Hohlov was a member of the expert council "The Future of Government" of the World Economic Forum and the coordinator for C7 Action Line "E-Government" of the WSIS Action Plan on behalf of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. He took part in the elaboration of the Information Society Development Strategy in the Russian Federation and the national plan for its implementation as well as of the Digital Economy of the Russian Federation program and action plans for its implementation, etc.
Dr. Hohlov is author of several monographs and more than 200 articles, head or member of international (UN, World Bank, World Economic Forum, etc.) and national (Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Information Society, Expert Council under the Government of the Russian Federation, Expert Council on Digital Transformation and working group "Digital public administration" at the Digital Economy NGO, etc.) expert councils.

1998
Vitaliy Niyazovich Vezirov
Since 1998, V. N. Vezirov held the position of Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Inter-Industry Information – the federal information analysis center of the defense industry (VIMI).
In 1995, he was awarded the title of the Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Informatization of Information Processes and Technologies, while in 2005, he was awarded the title of academician of the Academy for Quality.
As VIMI leader, V. N. Vezirov managed work intended to solve tasks of widespread industry informatization and government of the state using computing and telecommunications tools, with such work including information analysis research in the field of applying scientific achievements, development of critical defense-industry technologies, as well as a set of measures aimed to ensure technical reequipment of defense industry complex enterprises.
V. N. Vezirov took part in work of interagency commissions preparing solutions of R&D organization, planning and management, state commissions of assessing systems and complexes.
He has gained experience of arranging international level operations, was a member of the Science and Technology Council of the Defense Industry Commission under the Government of the Russian Federation, and a member of the Research Council of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Doctor of Engineering, Professor, Academician of the International Informatization Academy, Corresponding Member of the Russian Engineering Academy, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Inter-Industry Information (VIMI). Awardee of the USSR State Prize (1989) for engineering work.
