Abstract

Theoretical and conceptual in nature, the article readdresses the problem of the rising risks and threats in modern society that is generally characterized by uncertainty, unpredictability and potential conflict. Advances in digital technologies deepen and expand the scope of information society but also bring about new challenges in various spheres of public life and different institutions. In particular, they transform media communication at various levels. In such a society, there is an increased impact of risk journalism and crisis communication that become major forms of social interaction. Some alternative modes of mass communication are of no less importance, including constructive communication aimed at preventing risks and resolving crisis, confrontation and conflict, lowering conflict and risk potential, ensuring social balance and sustainable social development.
