Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the conceptual foundations when considering the theory of technological paradigms. This issue has been brought up to date by many researchers, including Ian Miles. In his reflections, he postulates the emergence of a new “IT paradigm”, unfolding it in three overlapping interrelated aspects and paradigms – “technological”, “techno-economic” and “socio-technical”. Miles’s idea of the information economy and the techno-economic paradigm looks very convincing, although it is insufficient for a thorough substantiation of the theory of changes in society as an integrated system. Miles’s conceptual reliance on Kondratiev's theory of “long waves”, as well as the idea of “creative destruction” by its later apologist, Joseph Schumpeter, It makes this theory an important step in the development of methodological foundations in the study of the information society and information technology.
