Abstract

This article examines portrayals of artificial intelligence (AI) in works of science fiction and their impact on the perception of time in contemporary society. The analysis focuses on such works as Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R. (1920), the film The Matrix (dir. Lana and Lilly Wachowski, 1999), 2001: A Space Odyssey (dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1968), the “San Junipero” episode of Black Mirror (2016), and the film The Terminator (dir. James Cameron, 1984). The study is grounded in an interdisciplinary approach, combining narratological analysis with psychological and philosophical concepts of time perception.
