The ACM (Artificial Consciousness Module) project on the creation of artificial consciousness: philosophical foundations, challenges and prospects
Keywords:
artificial consciousness, Artificial Consciousness Module project, functionalist emergence, multimodal perceptionAbstract
The project's goal is to create a neural network, a module of artificial consciousness, whose architecture is correlated with the biological architecture of consciousness. It is also assumed that the formation of consciousness and its properties is the result of the causal and functional organization of the system. Hence, the task is to create conditions for the appearance of measurable emergent properties of consciousness. It is proposed to use formal methods of Integrated Information Theory for measurement. The philosophical basis of AFM is functionalist emergentism. Despite a number of positive aspects, the Project currently does not provide a solution to the "difficult problem of consciousness." However, this Project has not been completed and it has promising prospects.
