Prospects for Use of Postal Services and Assets in Smart City Projects

Abstract

The article substantiates the possibility of participation of the Russian Post in Smart City projects by integrating the information systems of the smart city and the postal services assets to collect city data and support the information processes inherent in the urban economy at the information society stage. The integration will improve the results of smart city management and the provision of municipal services to citizens by postal services technologies that are basic for the digital economy. The transition of postal departments in different countries and the Russian Post to the provision of digital services determines their willingness to become full participants in the Smart City projects launched throughout the world. In order to substantiate the relevance of the study, identify the opinions of citizens in relation to the Smart City projects, the participation of Russian Post in such projects, the authors present the results of the international sources analysis and the online survey of citizens of the Russian Federation. The survey reveals the attitude of respondents to the use of digital technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT) in urban initiatives, and the assessment of the Russian Post capability to participate in implementation of the Smart City projects.
