Abstract

The article proposes an approach, a conceptual framework and indicators for monitoring the big data industry, which is understood as a set of companies producing technologies, solutions and services in the field of big data. The conceptual framework for monitoring is based on the role model of big data, as presented in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard for big data reference architecture. The monitoring framework includes 9 indicators characterizing the scale, competitiveness, and potential of the big data industry. Measurement of the indicator related to the number of startups in the big data industry, based on the Crunchbase database, showed a significant lag of Russia from developed countries (0.52% of all startups in this area).
