Abstract

The paper studies the perception of local online communities by student youth. A sociological survey of the student audience of the Nizhny Novgorod State University is conducted in the research. In addition to counting the frequency of answers to questions about students' attitudes towards territorial Internet communities, the method of constructing contingency tables was used to identify stable patterns in the perception of such communities. The results of the study showed the high popularity of local online communities among students. According to the respondents, the news search is the main function performed by these communities. In addition, the public/group topic is the main factor determining the decision to join the virtual Internet community for a young audience.
