The Phenomenon of Virtual Ethnic Identity: Areas of Theoretical Conceptualization

Abstract: The article provides a review on modern sociological approaches to the definition of "virtual ethnic identity". Ñlassification of th ose is based on the strategies of virtual ethnicity reliance while studying the information society. The author progressively describes the correlation between real and virtual ethnicity, cyber-nationalism and the issue of defining the ethnicity by members of transnational communities.

Societal Risks of Global Digitalization

Abstract:
A conceptual educative program is focused on the global digitization consequences for most important areas of human life including education, professional activities, family, mental health and social communities. Systematic efforts are needed to recognize, minimize and, when possible, prevent societal risks accompanying the development and implementation of emerging technological innovations.
A proposed approach is mainly focused on life activities that are grounded more heavily on societal, rather than economical, industrial or geopolitical nature of human society. Ethical or moral dilemmas serve as a focal point of building both a conceptual foundation, as well as practical implications of risk studies as they relate to digital transformations.

The “Death Group” and “The Columbine Community” in Online Culture and Real Society

Abstract: The conditions of modern online culture cause shifts in the most important spheres of human life, that cause both positive and negative, risk-providing effects. The significant part in forming the outlook and socialization of modern youth is taken by virtual communities, whose role is ambiguous. The virtualization of the communication and lifestyle creates a complex of life-threatening and human security problems, including existential ones, connected with disillusionment and escapism. The object of the study are “death groups” (such as “Blue whale”, “Wake me up at 4.20” and others), which have become popular in social networks in recent years, calling on young people to commit suicide, as well as the so-called Columbine community associated with acts of aggression and murder in educational institutions. The research is relevant due to the series of terroristic acts in schools, occurring during 2018, that had similar mechanisms and appearances. These events, as well as previous, connected with several teenager suicides, caused the wide resonance and were followed by altering the federal laws, connected with media resources

Implementation a Blended Learning Model in Higher Education Using Information Technology

Abstract: The development of information technology opens up new ways for teachers to interact with students. Massive open online courses (MOOC) and blended learning are new educational technologies that are widely used in both the Russian and global markets. Key features of online education implementation in the system of higher education in Russia is an urgent research question. The article describes the existing possibilities of using online learning technology in the educational process, examines international experience, highlights the strengths and weaknesses. A special place is given to an empirical study of the Russian university students attitude to the MOOC.

Information and Communication Barriers in Media Convergence and Opportunities to Overcome Them

Abstract: The article deals with information and communication barriers that arise in the teams of modern media, and ways to overcome them, substantiates the substance of “information and communication barriers” and considers their types, provides a summary table of the most common barriers, as well as the results of a survey of the media of St. Petersburg on the subject of identifying information and communication barriers in editorial teams and the nature of their dysfunctional impact.

The Influence of “Generation Z” on the Functioning of the Media Institute: Prognostic Model

Abstract: The article proposes a scientific and applied substantiation of modern media consumption trends. Using the method of secondary data analysis, the authors build a predictive model of the functioning of the media institute under the influence of media preferences and media guides of the generation Z – young audience (15-20 years). New types of media production are explicated: content producers and content distributors. Emphasis is placed on enhancing the personalization of content, that specifically addresses the interests and needs of narrow audience segments. It is determined that the ?brave new world” of media will require completely different professional qualities from journalists, who will have to gain not only applied (based on creativity), but also technical skills in order to remain competitive in the modern technological paradigm.

Hackers, Digital Activists and Bloggers: on the Issue of Their Engaging in Countering Extremist and Terrorist Activities in the Internet

Abstract: Nowadays the development of technologies used by extremist and terrorist groups leaves behind the capabilities of intelligence agencies of states that are engaged in countering information threats. The importance of new social groups increases in the terms of information confrontation: representatives of social groups such as hackers, bloggers and digital activists are to take part in countering information threats. The author proposes to take a closer look at the features of the activities of hackers, digital activists and bloggers in order to research the ways of interaction with them which could provide countering information threats to national security.
