Dynamics of the life cycle and conflictogenicity of media representations of conflict (using the example of the arab-israeli conflict in Telegram)
Keywords:
conflict, social media, Telegram, Arab-Israeli conflictAbstract
The potential influence of different actors of the polysubject structure of the media environment (institutionalized and non-institutionalized) within a single digital media communication platform on the life cycle and conflictogenic nature of the media representation of the conflict is investigated. An empirical study was conducted on the basis of a set of texts in Telegram dedicated to the Arab-Israeli conflict in 2023, using the method of mathematical language modeling. The authors came to the conclusion that 1) the number of editorially produced texts and audience comments are connected, although the nature of this connection may be external rather than internal, i.e. directly determined by the events of the conflict as a fact of social reality; 2) there is no regularity in the determinism of the life cycle of the media representation of the conflict in institutionalized and non-institutionalized media; 3) the conflictogenicity of commentary discourse is not related to the conflictogenicity of the editorially produced text.
